I’ve been thinking about this recently because I noticed that the younger people I know getting Uber almost everywhere. I in my teenage years and I feel like other people of my generation would’ve been much more likely to have to walk somewhere long. If you can’t get a ride or a bus so I feel like it’s changing travel for younger people because it’s so easy to access at an affordable price. Not so good I think,
Thank you for reading! Yes, Uber/Lyft wasn't a thing until well after college for me. We just walked everywhere. But that's also not really a possibility everywhere. Where I currently live, you can very much forgo ride hailing because of the frequent rail and bus services (it takes longer, but you'd naturally build in that time if the alternative didn't exist). But in my previous (car-centric) hometown, if you didn't have a car, you'd be out of luck without Uber/Lyft. Still, I think because these services exist, it sometimes gives cities a license to drag their feet on some of this transit-oriented development!
